Ketubah + Life Cycle Pieces

Sliding Scale

One of my artistic and spiritual practices is creating ketubot and other life cycle art to celebrate our connections to each other and mark transitions. The Ketubah (marriage contract) is both a practice that has seeded beautiful culturally-specific art traditions, and one born of notions of transactional ownership and gendered power dynamics. A few years ago, I began creating queer ketubot for my friends as a way to reimagine the art form to reflect how they were creating relationships and understanding commitment. This work continues a long history of Jewish people molding traditions to fit their own lives and values. This series has led to pieces that expand the idea of the ketubah in many ways - beyond marriage, beyond romantic love, beyond monogamous love, beyond love of people who are still here with us. I’d be honored to work with you to celebrate your loves or a new stage in your life.
